METAPHOR

“MAKE LOVE YOUR WEAPON AGAINST ANY EVIL.”  MJ

It occurred to me, as I walked one lovely spring morning,  that seasonal changes living in northern Minnesota are very like the musical compositions that fill my senses with elation and beauty.  The ability to create melodies and harmonies in arrangements Invinciblethat feel as if the sound is being gently pulled from deep inside the soul, moving towards the light.  That is but one of the multitude of gifts coming from the musical genius that is Michael Jackson.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZc6VZmbkJU

metaphor:  the application of a word or phrase to an object to suggest comparison with another object or concept

While drinking from dawn’s nectar, I realized the metaphor for northern spring.  Spring comes in tiny morsels which float on the winds.  Days dawn earlier.  Birdsong moves from brief tunes to full-throated love song.  Cardinals begin the morning romance.  Although small in stature, their sound is symphonic.earth song four

It’s the gradualness of these melodic measures that excites.  Each part is cause for celebration.  Temperatures climb and summer attire appears.  Nothing is taken for granted…words from Michael’s lips.  Allow the music to build, appreciate each layer as the song is painted with loving brushstrokes.  “We will never fail if we create with love.” MJ

In the winter of my years, I understand.  Greeting each season with love in my heart and taking none of it for granted.  I enjoy the slowness of ecstasy.  “Being in the moment, I will always have music.”  MJjoy

Learning, listening, thinking, staying open, creating, appreciating, staying humble, being part of a global community seeking to heal the world with love.  The composition is never complete.  Michael has taught me that.  “I am always hearing what is missing.” MJ  My composition is far from complete.  Life is drawn measure by measure.  The more I think about it, the more convinced I am.  Michael’s vision, his work, his life stand as a metaphor for humanity…how to live in love.capt eo two

To say he inspires me…to say that I learn more about living each day……to say that I learn more about myself, is to speak the truth.  Michael has always been, and remains today, the truth.  This legacy extends to all four corners of the earth…the global community.  I am part of it.  With a full heart, I harness this energy to share whenever and wherever I can.  METAPHOR.  LEGACY.  THE DREAM CONTINUES…

DANCING THE DREAM  1992

CONSCIOUSNESS EXPRESSES ITSELF THROUGH CREATION.  THIS WORLD WE LIVE IN IS THE DANCE OF THE CREATOR.  DANCERS COME AND GO IN THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE BUT THE DANCE LIVES ON.  ON MANY AN OCCASION WHEN I’M DANCING, I’VE FELT TOUCHED BY SOMETHING SACRED.  IN THOSE MOMENTS I’VE FELT MY SPIRIT SOAR AND BECOME ONE WITH EVERYTHING THAT EXISTS.  I BECOME THE STARS AND THE MOON.  I BECOME THE LOVERhandsome ten AND THE BELOVED.  I BECOME THE VICTOR AND THE VANQUISHED.  I BECOME THE MASTER AND THE SLAVE.  I BECOME THE SINGER AND THE SONG.  I BECOME THE KNOWER AND THE KNOWN.  I KEEP ON DANCING AND THEN, IT IS THE ETERNAL DANCE OF THE CREATION.  THE CREATOR AND CREATION MERGE INTO ONE WHOLENESS OF JOY.  I KEEP ON DANCING AND DANCING…….AND DANCING, UNTIL THERE IS ONLY……THE DANCE.  Michael Jacksonspiritual

This week, we will celebrate springtime.  I plan to dance and sing and feel touched by creation.  I hope you will enjoy Michael’s message.  “Remember, it’s all meant to be play…keep to your task but dance while you do it.”  MJ Happy Spring!in love two

GENIUS

“Michael Jackson is, indeed, an international favorite for all ages, an incredible force of incredible energy.  In the art of music, he is a pacesetter for quality of production, in the peace twovanguard for high standards of entertainment.  What is a GENIUS?  What is a living legend?  What is a megastar?  Michael Jackson…that’s all.  And just when you think you know him, he gives you more.”  Elizabeth Taylortwelve hours

“A theory by Harvard Professor Howard Gardner in his 1983 book FRAMES OF THE MIND says there are seven kinds of intelligences, each with its own type of genius.  He lists these seven types of intelligences and individuals who fit into each category:  Logical-Mathematical…Isaac Newton, Verbal-Linquistic…William Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Michael Jackson, Spatial-Mechanical… Michelangelo, Musical…Mozart, Michael Jackson, Bodily-Kinesthetic…Michael Jackson, Muhammad Ali, Interpersonal-Social…Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth I, Interpersonal (Self-Knowledge)…Mother Teresa, Michael Jackson.”  Michael Jackson Rocked the World and Lives Forever  Jel Jones 2010brunei

“What is a genius?  Someone who demands change.”  Michael Jackson of James Brown

“ONE OF THE MOST INDELIBLE IMPRESSIONS I HAVE FROM MY TIME WORKING WITH MICHAEL JACKSON IS THE ABOUNDING CREATIVE ENERGY HE BROUGHT TO EVERY MOMENT OF HIS LIFE.  MICHAEL NEVER STOPPED RECORDING MELODIES AND BEATS, JOTTING DOWN POTENTIAL LYRICS AND WRITING NOTES AND PLANS FOR FOUNDATIONS, THEME PARKS, STORES. AND EVERY OTHER MANNER OF BUSINESS VENTURE IMAGINABLE.  HE WAS ALSO A PROLIFIC SKETCH ARTIST, CREATING MINI-MASTERPIECES ON PAPER, NAPKINS, PILLOWCASES, OR ANYTHING THAT WAS IN FRONT OF HIM.  THIS LIMITLESS WELL OF CREATIVITYBAD 1 IS WHAT FUELED THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN POP MUSIC HISTORY.  MICHAEL DREAMED UP IDEAS THAT BROKE NEW GROUND IN THE WORLD OF FASHION, BREAKING TRADITIONS AND SETTING NEW TRENDS THAT WERE COPIED THE WORLD OVER.”  KING OF STYLE DRESSING MICHAEL JACKSON MICHAEL BUSH 2012english

“Michael Jackson was not an artist who comes along once in a decade, a generation, or a lifetime.  He was an artist who comes along only once, period.  He was the consummate student.  He studied the greats and became greater.  He raised the bar and then BROKE the bar.”  Berry Gordy MOONWALK 1988

“SOMEHOW, IN THE MIDST OF THE CIRCUS THAT SURROUNDED HIM, MICHAEL JACKSON MANAGED TO LEAVE BEHIND ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE CATALOGS IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC.  RARELY HAS AN ARTIST BEEN SO ADEPT AT COMMUNICATING THE VITALITY AND VULNERABILITY OF THE HUMAN CONDITION…THE MUSIC RAN THROUGH HIM LIKE AN ELECTRIC CURRENT.  HE MEDIATED IT THROUGH EVERY MEANS AT HIS DISPOSAL:  HIS VOICE, HIS BODY, HIS DANCES, FILMS, COSTUMES, TECHNOLOGY AND PERFORMANCES…HE WAS ART INCARNATE.”  Featuring Michael Jackson Joseph Vogel 2012https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRxycXTQR-EBillie Jean 1

In many ways an artist is his work.  It’s difficult to separate the two.”  Michael Jackson

“I’ll never see this kind of talent again in my life…There’s something special in him that isn’t of this world.”  Sheryl Crow BAD TOUR

“I KNOW THE CREATOR WILL GO.  BUT HIS WORK SURVIVES.  THAT IS WHY TO ESCAPE DEATH I ATTEMPT TO BIND MY SOUL TO MY WORK.”  MICHAEL JACKSON ABOUT HIMSELF, QUOTING MICHELANGELO

“TO LIVE IS TO BE MUSICAL, STARTING WITH THE BLOOD DANCING IN YOUR VEINS.  EVERYTHING LIVING HAS A RHYTHM.” Michael Jacksontwymmftwo

If there is one thing I have learned it is that there is GENIUS in everything Michael Jackson did…his music, his dance, his performance, his short films, his humanitarian visions and realities, his imagination, his vision, his words, his lyrics, his style.  The amazing thing was that with all that, he was able to be a real person who loved being with people, collaborating, have fun together, reaching out and rescuing those in need, being a loving father, son, brother, friend.  “It’s impossible not to love Michael Jackson at any age.” Frank Dileo.  Oftentimes, those blessed with genius find it difficult to cope with the “real” world.  Michael Jackson had no problem living in the real world with real people.  He did it every day of his life.  “I truly love people.”  Words Michael often said.  “I was influenced not only by his talent, but by his personality.”  Bob Giraldi Director of “Beat It”.  We as Fans crave more.  We search the internet for new truthful discoveries wybt threeand enjoy each and every one.  Michael’s art began with what he called a raggedy.  In his interview with Ebony Magazine on December, 2007, Michael said, “What I do when I write is that I’ll do a raggedy, rough version just to hear the chorus, just to see how much I like the chorus.  If it works for me that way when it’s raggedy, then I know it’ll work.”  I love hearing and seeing the genius of Michael’s creative on top of everythingprocess.  I learn so much from it.  I will sit for hours with headphones listening to demos he has done.  They are perfection to me.  I hear the layers, like clouds, one atop the other.  I listen with eyes closed, in the dark…Michael taught me that.  He recorded in a darkened studio…no paper, everything from memory…EVERYTHING FROM INSIDE.  I actually FEEL that soul when I listen.  My imagination thrusts me into HIS studio with HIM.  IT IS MAGIC.  In his discussion about posthumous releases, Joseph Vogel said this, “All are necessarily approximations to what Jackson would have ultimately put out in finished form.  That’s the nature of posthumous releases.  They will always be imperfect and they will always generate fierce debate.  But for most music lovers, we will take whatever new Michael Jackson we can get, whether demos, new mixes or remixes.”  Instead of gathering dust inside Michael’s vault…I WANT TO LISTEN AND DANCE.  I want to bask in the light of Michael’s original works, untouched.

gorgeous

It’s late and time to draw this piece to a close.  I will revisit thoughts of genius and personality another time.  For now, I am smiling and hope you are as well.  Sweet dreams.

PATH

jumpI’M INTERESTED IN MAKING A PATH INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING A TRAIL AND THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO DO IN LIFE—IN EVERYTHING I DO.”  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_VmQzVF-CI

Michael Jackson    Man in the Music    Joseph Vogel    2011

“The idea is to take it a step forward and to innovate or else why am I doing it.  I don’t just want to be another can in the assembly line.  I want to create and do something that’s totally different and unusual.”  MTV Interview 1999handsome ten

I LOVE TO CREATE…TO MAKE MAGIC…TO DO THE UNEXPECTED.” MJ

I’m not completely sure who decided that growing up meant growing old.  Who was it who gave the order to stop play, get serious and turn cynical.  To the world’s great good fortune, Michael Jackson was chosen for a different path.  Of his many gifts, love and an innocent spirit informed every fiber of his being.  Some confused  this spirit with weakness or naivete.  But, make no mistake, Michael was neither of these.  Those with limited knowledge interpreted these qualities as childish, a boy who never grew up.  But, when time is taken to really know the man, limited low-ceiling imaginations cannot bring truth.childrens conference 2

“I hear the whole entire song and arrangements in my head.  What each instrument is suppose to do.  I put them down orally on tape, then, I go out and find that instrument.  I don’t give up until I get exactly what I want.  I sing every part with my mouth.” MJ Michael Album

“Michael would express to me the importance of giving the world a gift.  Giving them songs that would last forever.  He wanted to revisit, nurture and define because MJ was beat itsevena perfectionist at everything and nothing is ever done until he is smiling and dancing.  It was like watching a flower grow and blossom in the spring. When the expressed sound of his imagination felt right he would look at me with a calm smile and say, ‘It’s nice, isn’t it!'” Michael Album 2010 The Estatehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmU2rEcSHz8

Innocence of spirit, looking at the world unencumbered by color, race, religion, borders or boundaries freed Michael’s imagination.  His imagination knew no limits. “When Michael was given his imagination, they broke the mold.” Quincy Jones. Present every day of his life, the magic, wonder and mystery of life informed themes.  They are found in every facet of Michael’s creativity, his body of work, his humanitarian efforts.  These pervasive themes received their life’s blood from the values Michael lived out on the world stage.  He shared them all with millions.  In a career spanning 45 years, great and sustained energy produced the thread of themes to the tenth power.soldier in history

To get closer to an understanding of who Michael Jackson is, one fact becomes clear…in a world filled with lies, Michael is the truth.  His character, personality, persona, whether before thousands or in private, remains the same, having roots deep inside his values and a belief in the power of the people.  All have their basis in a strong belief in God.

“Sometimes you feel like something’s coming, a gestation, almost like a pregnancy.  You get emotional and you start to feel something gestating and, MAGIC, there it is!  An explosion of something that’s so beautiful, you go, WOW!  There it is!  That’s how it dangerousagainworks through you.  It’s a beautiful thing.  It’s a universe where you can go with those 12 notes.” MJ Ebony Interview 2007

“Michael’s popularity appealed to the very young, the very old and everyone in between…blacks, whites.  And, that only happens once in a lifetime.” Dick Clark The One 2003blood two

The whole idea of magic, of things that hold a mystery about them, has always intrigued me.  A creative life is key to a happy life.  Those golden gems of wonder that were so easily understood in childhood.  Pictures drawn where the sky didn’t have to be colored blue, water could be painted in shades of yellow, THINKING OUT OF THE BOX…no boundaries.  Freeing imagination is personal, emotional.  “Michael was a performer who could share his innermost feelings with millions.” Gregory Peck.  It leads to thinking that heals wounded souls.  For some, it is unsettling…if it can’t be proved, it cannot be true. Imagination that holds no boundaries inspires new paths, breaks new ground and is visionary.  Unlimited imagination leading to pioneering visions is GENIUS.  “Today’s cutting edge is tomorrow’s classic.” MJ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EFkqn2TwIwsmooth criminal

“I don’t force it.  I let nature take its course.  I don’t sit at the piano and think I’m going to write the greatest song of all time.  It doesn’t happen.  It has to be given to you.  I believe it’s already up there before you are born.  And then, it drops into your lap.  It’s the most spiritual thing in the world.  When it comes, it comes with all the accompaniments, the strings, the bass, the drums, the lyrics and you’re just the medium through which it comes, the channel.  Sometimes I feel guilty putting my name on songs…because it’s as if the heavens have done it already. ” MJ

“Michael’s approach is very dramatic!  Very concise.  When he commits to an idea he goes all the way with it.  He has the presence of mind to feel something, conceive it and then bring it to life.  It’s a long way from idea to execution. Everybody wants to go to heaven and nobody wants to die.  It’s ass power, man.  You have to be emotionally ready to put as much energy into it as it takes to make it right.” Quincy Jonesgolden

And so, I walk my creative path today, inspired by one who said, “If the whole world says, ‘NO!’ you say, ‘YES!’ MJ  I am delighted that you have read all the way to this point in my story.  Without boundaries of color, race, religion or national borders, let’s use our imaginations to live this dream…IT’S ALL FOR LOVE.
