(MLK)  Each day, we accept the challenge to stop the ignorance in our defense of Michael Jackson’s life and legacy, each of us turning on lights in darkened rooms.  Blessed with a burden that is equal in beauty and blessing, we witness for a man who saw the world the way it could be, taking on authority, with  complete understanding that nothing strengthens authority so much as silence. Our journey is both visceral and academic.  We accumulate knowledge.  With understanding comes a perceptive awareness leading us toward enlightenment.  It is complicated in the extreme, yet simple in design:  We witness.  We love.  We share. Life can neither be ennobled or enriched by hatred or revenge. (RFK)  This is not about revenge toward those whose bad ideas sink under their own weight…whose false nightmare scenarios die with the shame of betrayal.  We accept that many remain steadfast in their determination to discredit all that Michael achieved.  Michael’s artistry, his life choices, his business acumen, his musical and creative genius are unequivocal.  There is no one like him.  There never will be.  Michael’s art, like an invisible tissue, wraps itself around us.  We live it with him.  It stays within us.

Life is paradoxical.  Feeling the loss of someone we love more than ourselves juxtaposed with a sense of power that comes from knowledge, we are steadfast.  There are days when it is more difficult to repel the negativity found in the words:  Life is a betrayal.  Clearly, we see betrayal when Michael’s wishes are ignored, his visionary business acumen thwarted, his life story twisted and turned for profit, even to include his beloved pets, his profound desire to reach out to those suffering from violence turned into a comedy, with a white man in the leading role.  Some may say we live with false hope…that respect and the dignity of his character, lived each day on a world stage, will never be presented honestly to the world.  Is it possible to have a hero without a villain?  Truly, Michael was blessed with more than his share of adversaries.  They live and breathe yet today, many cloaked in the word:  Friend.  And then, we are gifted the Off The Wall Documentary…and, we feel the glow.

Michael told us that it is how the story ends that is important.  In Wayne Dyers’ words:  Be strong by bending, keeping radical humility as we see everything as miraculous.  Our miracle lies in witnessing with amplified memories.  Our Maestro leads the way.  Bonded together, engraved in our hearts, we face what scares us…we dance and sing, we paint and write…transparent in claiming the glory for Michael.  For, in doing that…the glow illuminates the world.

“He liked to see people do well and he liked to use his reputation and resources to help people with disabilities, children from the inner city who grew up in poverty and violence.  He liked to see people happy.  He could have taken his wealth and prestige and not deal with the kids, not give to worthy causes.  He could have been purely selfish if he wanted, but it was not what he chose to do.  He really wanted to make a difference.  He wanted to bring people of all races, all religions, and all nationalities together.  You can see it in his music.  You can see it in the way he lived.”

“In 2002, a woman named Marjorie, who was receiving chemotherapy treatment at the time, was waiting in Pasadena for the American Bandstand 50th Anniversary taping.  A gathering of fans was very fortunate to be very close to Michael for some moments.  He accepted the artwork Marjorie had made for him and then, to her surprise, he reached out and pulled her into a tight hug and whispered, ‘You should have stayed home.  You look very sick.’  This is but one example of the caring gestures so many received.  How many celebrities would notice and care and hold her in their arms without receiving word about her condition?  But then, Michael had seen enough sick and dying children in his life to know what someone in the midst of chemo looks like.  And, he cared.”
